Britney Spears on oboe, "Reed Talk", and more news from the KU Oboe Studio

The KU Double Reed Ensemble prepared a video performance for the Midwestern Double Reed Society Annual Member Meeting on October 18, 2020. They performed an arrangement of Toxic by Britney Spears, arranged by freshman oboist Ava Bigalke. 

 

Dr. Margaret Marco participated in the Oboe Mobile Foundation Workshop on November 20, 2020. The Oboe Mobile Foundation provides free instruments and instruction for young oboists from all over the island of Puerto Rico.

 

Dr. Margaret Marco and colleague Dr. Courtney Miller, assistant oboe professor at the University of Iowa, created a new podcast called Reed Talk for oboe players of all levels. The podcast brings reed making tips and lightheartedness to the difficult task of reed making. Each episode features a leading oboist in the field of oboe playing and does a deep dive into a question on every oboists’ mind "how do I become a more successful reed maker?" It can be heard on all major platforms.
