"Des Moines Metro Opera Presents Bon Appétit!" starring Joyce Castle receives Upper Midwest Emmy


"Des Moines Metro Opera (DMMO) presents Bon Appétit!" starring Joyce Castle, KU Music Distinguished Professor of Voice, won the 2020 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy! At the awards ceremony November 14, Iowa PBS's broadcast was announced as the 2020 winner of the Arts and Entertainment - Program division. 

"Des Moines Metro Opera presents Bon Appétit!" was recorded live at the opening night performance of DMMO's new production on July 18, 2019. Acclaimed mezzo-soprano Joyce Castle starred as the master chef herself, Julia Child, with Elden Little at the piano. The production was directed by Nathan Troup and featured scenic design by Adam Crinson, lighting design by Nate Wheatley, costume design by Heather Lesieur and wig/make-up design by Sarah Norton. 

This is the sixth consecutive nomination for one of Iowa PBS’s broadcasts of a Des Moines Metro Opera production in this category.
