Halloween Spooktacular Concert, Costume Contest, and Instrument Petting Zoo to be held Oct. 30
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of David Neely, will present its annual Halloween Spooktacular performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Lied Center of Kansas. The KU School of Music will host an instrument petting zoo, sponsored by Sigma Alpha Iota, prior to the concert at 6:30 p.m. in the Lied Center Lobby. A children’s costume contest will be held on-stage during the concert and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Concert tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors and students. Children (0-18) in costume are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office, by phone at 785-864-2787 or online at lied.ku.edu.
The event gives children an opportunity to interact with a variety of orchestral instruments with instruction from KU School of Music students, participate in an on-stage costume contest, and enjoy an entertaining, family-friendly concert with the Symphony Orchestra dressed in costume.
This year, the concert features spooky and magical music, including Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky; Puss-In-Boots and the White Cat from Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky; Suite from The Fellowship of the Ring by Howard Shore; Overture to The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner; Funeral March for a Marionette by Charles Gounod; and March to the Scaffold and A Witches’ Sabbath from Symphonie Fantastique, op. 14 by Hector Berlioz.
Sponsors for costume contest include Billy Vanilly, Laugh Out Loud Family Zone, Love Garden, Royal Crest Lanes, and the Lied Center of Kansas.
The concert will also be available via live stream by visiting http://livestream.com/liedcenter/KUSOHalloween on the night of the concert.
