The Kansas City Musical Club awards scholarships to KU School of Music students

LAWRENCE, KS —The Kansas City Musical Club awarded three scholarships to KU School of Music piano students. Auditions were held on March 9, 2013 on the UMKC campus.

The following awards were presented:
· Ounsworth Memorial Scholarship for Piano - Kyle Naig
· Gladys Casford Memorial Scholarship for Piano - Chi Kit Lam
· Beatrice Liu Memorial Scholarship & Musical Club Scholarship for Piano - Qichen Jiang

Kyle Naig, junior from Johnson, IA, is a student of Steven Spooner. Chi Kit Lam, MM student from Hong Kong, is a student of Jack Winerock. Qichen Jiang, MM student from Chengdu, China, is a student of Scott McBride Smith.

Each student was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Additionally, the 2013 winners were invited to perform in the annual Kansas City Musical Club Scholarship Benefit Concert, which helps raise money to fund next year’s scholarships. The concert will be held on April 14, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., at the Asbury United Methodist Church, at 5400 W. 75th Street in Prairie Village, KS.
