KU Collegium Musicum to hold annual holiday concert Dec. 7

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

The University of Kansas Collegium Musicum will hold its annual holiday concert at Bales Organ Recital Hall on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The Vocal Collegium Musicum is a choir of 14 singers directed by Song Yi Park and Jordan Davis, both graduate teaching assistants in the School of Music Choral Division. The Instrumental Collegium Musicum is an ensemble of six musicians who play recorders, Baroque flute, various Baroque string instruments, and the harpsichord. Its director is Paul Laird, professor of musicology.

The concert will include works, many of them related to the holiday season, by such composers as Tomás Luis de Victoria, George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, and others, a rich mixture of pieces from a number of different times and places, all performed in the superbly resonant acoustics of Bales Organ Recital Hall.

The concert is free and the public is invited. For more information, please contact Paul Laird at plaird@ku.edu
