KU Collegium Musicum to present “Early Music for the Holiday Season” at Bales Organ Recital Hall on Dec. 10
The KU Collegium Musicum, both the Vocal and Instrumental branches, will present the concert “Early Music for the Holiday Season” at Bales Organ Recital Hall on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 7:30 PM. The concert will include music from the fifteenth through the nineteenth centuries, including well-known favorites from the season, less famous music written for the holidays, and some works that most likely, at one time or another, were used to help celebrate the holidays. Included, for example, will be works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, anonymous English carols from the late Middle Ages, and Italian instrumental music from the seventeenth century. The directors of the Vocal Collegium Musicum are Dr. Paul Tucker, director of choral activities at the University of Kansas, and Dr. Paul Laird, professor of musicology, who directs the Instrumental Collegium Musicum. The Collegium Musicum specializes in performing music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque eras, while using performance techniques like those in use during the periods and playing on instruments that are reproductions of those used during the time. The concert is free and open to the public.
