KU Instrumental & Vocal Collegium Musicum presents concert entitled “Early Music for the Holiday Season” on Dec. 12
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Instrumental and Vocal Collegium Musicum will present a concert entitled "Early Music for the Holiday Season" at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 in the Bales Organ Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The Vocal Collegium Musicum is directed by Christopher Smith, D.M.A student in choral conducting. The Instrumental Collegium Musicum is directed by Paul Laird, professor of musicology.
The ensembles will present an enormously varied program with repertory ranging from a medieval song from Spain recounting a miracle by the Virgin Mary to a short cantata by Dieterich Buxtehude, a leading composer in 17th-century Germany, and vocal and instrumental works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The Vocal Collegium Musicum is an ensemble of twelve singers, both undergraduate and graduate students. The Instrumental Collegium Musicum includes two vocalists, five wind players who play a variety of instruments, a Baroque violist, Baroque cellist, and a harpsichordist.
