KU Opera presents Cosi Fan Tutte
The KU Opera will present Cosi Fan Tutte in the Robert Baustian Theatre in Murphy Hall at 7:30pm on October 2, 5, and 8, and at 2:30pm on October 10. Tickets to this opera are $10/adults and $5/students and seniors and are available by calling 785-864-3436.
Cosi Fan Tutte is the third in the trilogy of operas composed by Mozart with Da Ponte as his librettist. This is a modern story about love and fidelity and what can happen when a joke goes too far.
On the surface, the comic story of Ferrando and Guglielmo seems terribly silly; on a bet, two friends disguise themselves and try to seduce each others' girlfriends, tempting the women they love to cheat on them. When the men are successful, truths about how flimsy true love can be and the heartbreak that occurs is no longer funny.
The action has been updated to take place in the present day at an exclusive hotel in Naples, Florida. The KU Opera also has updated the sounds of the orchestra to reflect the modern setting.
The opera features six promising vocal graduate students in the leading roles and a chorus of eight talented undergraduates as lifeguards and hotel staff.
