KU School of Music announces ticket package for 2013-2014 ensemble concerts at the Lied Center

LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas School of Music is pleased to announce the reduced price ticket package for 2013-2014 music ensemble concerts held at the Lied Center of Kansas.

Ticket packages for any 10 KU School of Music concerts for the 2013-2014 season held at the Lied Center (not including the Collage Concert or the Holiday Vespers Concert) are available at the reduced cost of $50 for adults, and $25 for children, seniors and students. At the time of purchase, package subscribers may select 10 concerts from the list below. The Lied Center Ticket Office charges a $5 service fee for each order. Once purchased, tickets may be exchanged for different KU School of Music concerts on the list at least two weeks prior to the performance for a $2 fee per ticket.

All concerts in this series begin at 7:30 p.m. - except the Wind Ensemble performance on Oct. 6 (2:30 p.m.) Tickets to the Collage Concert and the Holiday Vespers Concert are not included in this package. All single and season tickets may be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office or by phone at 785-864-2787.

2013-2014 KU School of Music concerts held at the Lied Center eligible for the reduced price ticket package are as follows:

KU Symphony Orchestra - October 1, 2013
The opening concert of the KU Symphony Orchestra’s season begins with Verdi’s Sicilian Vespers overture, and features KU’s new assistant professor of violin, Véronique Mathieu, joining the orchestra for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

Wind Ensemble - October 6, 2013
Featuring Michael Davidson, KU associate professor of trombone, on Hyldgaard’s “Rapsodia Borealis” and Michael Torke’s “Bliss.”

Symphonic Band & Chamber Winds - October 22, 2013
Featuring the world premieres of professor of music composition James Barnes’ “Anniversary Fanfare for the Lied Center” and associate professor of music composition Kip Haaheim’s work for bassoon and electronics, written for associate professor of bassoon Eric Stomberg.

KU Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concert - October 30, 2013
This annual concert favorite for all ages features music from the spooky to the magical with plenty of costumes and gags. A community costume contest will precede the concert.

KU Symphony Orchestra - November 24, 2013
This concert celebrates the 100th birthday of Benjamin Britten and the 200th of Richard Wagner, and also features associate professor of clarinet Stephanie Zelnick, with Weber’s Concerto No. 1.
