LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas School of Music proudly presents the 90th Annual Holiday Vespers concerts and Pre-Holiday Vespers organ and brass concerts on Dec. 7, 2014.
The Pre-Holiday Vespers organ and brass concerts will take place at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 in Bales Organ Recital Hall. The concerts will last approximately 30 minutes. The Pre-Holiday Vespers concerts are free and open to the public. The program will include an 11-member student brass ensemble, the KU Chamber Singers directed by Paul Tucker, seasonal organ music performed by Dina Pannabecker Evans, and an audience carol sing.
The 90th Annual Holiday Vespers concerts will take place at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at the Lied Center of Kansas. Tickets are $13.50 for adults and $11 for children, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office, by phone at 785-864-2787 or online at www.lied.ku.edu.
The performance will feature the KU Choirs, conducted by Paul Tucker, KU director of choral activities, and Mariana Farah, KU associate director of choral activities, and the KU Symphony Orchestra, guest conducted by Sharon Toulouse, KU assistant director of bands.
The program will include Salvation is Created by Pavel Chesnokov; Rhapsody for Hanukkah by Stephen Bulla; La vergine degli angeli (The Virgin of the Angels) by Giuseppe Verdi featuring Julia Broxholm, associate professor of voice; Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams featuring Sarah Frisof, professor of flute; Harambee (A Call to Unity) by Joseph Jennings; Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson; Tritsch-Tratsch Polka by Johann Strauss, Jr.; O Holy Night by Adolphe Charles Adam, and audience sing-alongs.
