LAWRENCE - The KU School of Music proudly presents Simple Gifts, a community and university music celebration, at the Lied Center of Kansas on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.
Admission to the concert is free, but tickets are required, and can be picked up at the Lied Center Ticket Office during summer office hours: Monday through Friday from noon – 5:30 p.m. Call 785-864-2787 for more information.
Simple Gifts features the talents of the Kansas Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra comprised of faculty, students, alumni, and friends of the School of Music, which will be conducted by David Neely, director of orchestral activities at the University of Kansas; Joyce Castle, mezzo-soprano; Veronique Mathieu, violin; the Lawrence Children’s Choir; and Anna Han, piano. Susan Tate, chief executive officer of the Lawrence Arts Center will serve as the master of ceremonies for the evening.
The program will feature Simple Gifts by Joseph Brackett; Piano Concerto No.23 In A Major, K 488 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Bist Du bei mir, BWV 508 by Johann Sebastian Bach; Oh Praise the Lord with Heart and Voice from “The Creation” by Franz Joseph Haydn; Bridge Over Troubled Water by Paul Simon; Overture from the Opera “Donna Diana” by Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek; Psalm 23 by Srul Irving Glick; Our Gallant Ship by Susan Brumfield; Concerto No. 4 in F minor, Op. 8, RV 297 (“Winter” from The Four Seasons) by Antonio Vivaldi; Here’s to Life by Artie Butler & Phyllis Molinary; and Overture from the Opera “The Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini.
Simple Gifts is a cooperative partnership of the KU School of Music, the Lawrence Children’s Choir, the Lied Center of Kansas, and the Lawrence Arts Center.
