LAWRENCE - Eleven students from the University of Kansas School of Music will perform in the spring Graduate Honor Recital. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in Murphy Hall, room 130. The event is free and open to the public.
The School of Music students performing are as follows (listed in performance order):
Margaret Lambie, flute, is an M.M. student in flute performance studying with Sarah Frisof, professor of flute. She will perform Night Music for Solo Flute 1. Night Music I, 2. Song, 3. Dance (7 & 10) by Vanraj Bhatia. Lambie is from Grand Island, NE.
Jiwon Choi, piano, is a D.M.A. student in piano performance studying with Steven Spooner, professor of piano. She will perform Prelude Op. 23, No. 2 in B♭ Major by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Choi is from Busan, South Korea.
Ashley Puenner, mezzo-soprano, is an M.M. student in voice studying with Genaro Mendez, professor of voice. She will perform Stay Well from “Lost in the Stars” by Kurt Weill, Silent Noon by Ralph Vaughn Williams, and At the mid hour of night by Benjamin Britten. Puenner is from Crystal Lake, IL.
Sarah Miller, euphonium, is a D.M.A. student in tuba performance studying with Scott Watson, professor of tuba/euphonium. She will perform Pearls: III. Susi by Roland Szentpali. Miller is from Augusta, GA.
Teng Fu, piano, is a D.M.A. student in piano performance studying with Scott McBride Smith, professor of piano pedagogy. He will perform La Companella by Franz Liszt. Fu is from Zhengzhou, China.
Puyin Bai, clarinet, is an M.M. student in clarinet performance studying with Stephanie Zelnick, associate professor of clarinet. Bai will perform Introduction, Theme and Variations by Gioachino Rossini. Bai is from Xi’an, China.
Emily Bennett, soprano, is a D.M.A. student in voice performance studying with Joyce Castle, university distinguished professor in voice. She will perform Lebe wohl, Nimmersatte Liebe, Das verlassene Mägdlein, and Er ist’s! from “Moricke Lieder” by Hugo Wolf.
Christina Mandasari, piano, is an M.M. student in piano performance studying with Scott McBride Smith, professor of piano pedagogy. She will perform Java Suite: I. Gamelan by Leopold Godowsky. Mandasari is from Jakarta, Indonesia.
Eric Hessel, horn, is an M.M. student in horn performance studying with Paul Stevens, professor of horn. He will perform Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70 by Robert Schumann. Hessel is from Colorado Springs, CO.
Ensemble Kiowa is comprised of Mickayla Chapman, clarinet, a junior in clarinet performance from Lee’s Summit, MO; Man Wang, violin, a D.M.A. student in violin performance from Jinan, Shandong China; and Congcong Chai, piano, a D.M.A. student in piano performance from Xi’an China. The ensemble is coached by professors Scott McBride Smith, professor of piano pedagogy and Michael Kirkendoll, professor of piano. They will perform Trio for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano 3: Moderato by Aram Khachaturian.
Ying Tang, piano, is a D.M.A. student in piano performance studying with Jack Winerock, professor of piano. She will perform Piano Sonata, No. 1, 2nd movement by Carl Vine. Tang is from Hunan, China.
