KU Symphonic Band presents concert at Lied Center May 3

LAWRENCE – The 2015-2016 KU School of Music Lied Center Concert Series will close with a performance by the University of Kansas Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at the Lied Center of Kansas.

KU Symphonic Band Director Matthew O. Smith will open the concert with Aegean Festival Overture by Andreas Makris and Emory’s Barcarolle by Joel Puckett. Tonya Mitchell, a doctoral student in wind conducting, will guest conduct Symphonic Dance No. 3 “Fiesta” by Clifton Williams.

The concert will conclude with Smith conducting George Washington Bridge by William Schuman, The Invincible Eagle by John Philip Sousa and Give Us This Day by David Maslanka.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Lied Center Ticket Office by phone at 785-864-2787 or online at www.lied.ku.edu.
