KU University Band and KU Jazz Ensembles II & III present POPS concert at Lied Center on May 3
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas School of Music proudly presents Jazz Ensembles II & III and the KU University Band at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 at the Lied Center of Kansas.
The evening will begin with KU Jazz Ensemble III, led by Erik Mahon, graduate conductor, presenting Pressure Cooker by Sammy Nestico, Koobism by Chris Merz, and Cups and Cakes by Darren Jenkins. Zak Pischnotte, graduate conductor, will direct KU Jazz Ensemble II in Three and One by Thad Jones, Quiet Now by Chris Merz, and The Art of Darkness by James Miley.
Sharon L. Toulouse, assistant director of KU Bands, will conduct the University Band program, which features Harry’s Wondrous World by John Williams, arr. Jerry Brubaker; Catch Me If You Can by John Williams, arr. Jay Bocook, featuring Parker Riley, saxophone, Tai-Jung Tsai, vibes, and Jake Bedell, marimba; The Incredibles by Michael Giacchino, arr. MSG Dale McGiboney, featuring Erik Mahon, trumpet; Cry Me a River by Arthur Hamilton, arranged by Roger Downton, and You’ve Got A Friend In Me by Randy Newman, arr. Benjamin Harper, both of which feature Ash Reynolds, guest vocalist; Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams, arr. Paul Lavender, and Star Crossed by Andrew Boysen, featuring graduate conductor Benjamin Harper.
