LAWRENCE - The KU Youth Chorus (KUYC) will begin its tenth season at the University of Kansas with an initial meeting/rehearsal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 in Murphy Hall room 328.
The purpose of the KUYC is to provide youth participants a professionally organized singing experience, and to offer a laboratory environment for graduate and undergraduate music education majors at the KU School of Music to develop and enhance their conducting and rehearsal skills. Debra Hedden, KU professor of music education and music therapy, is the director of the KUYC.
The KUYC is open to all children grades four to eight. There are no auditions to become a member of the KUYC. Registration is required for all participants. The cost of membership is $65 for the KUYC season (Oct. 16, 2014 to May 7, 2015). The child and parent/parent representative must attend the initial meeting/rehearsal on Oct. 16, 2014.
Weekly rehearsals take place from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays in Murphy Hall room 328 beginning Oct. 16, 2014 and continuing through May 7, 2015 (see the complete KUYC schedule for exceptions due to holidays and spring break). The KUYC season concludes with a free concert at 5:15 p.m. on May 7, 2015.
