KU piano student scores chance to perform at Carnegie Hall with piano competition win
LAWRENCE--Inge Buniardi, a piano DMA student studying with Dr. Steven Spooner, was recently chosen as second prize winner of the 2012 American Fine Arts/AFAF International Concerto Competition.
With her winning performance of Rachmaninov’s Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, Buniardi was awarded the opportunity to perform at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall this month. Buniardi was also offered the chance to travel to Russia this past summer to perform with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra and work with faculty at the Moscow Conservatory. Buniardi’s Carnegie Hall performance took place on October 6, 2012. The annual AFAF Piano, Strings, Winds and Voice International Concerto Competition was created for advanced music students to compete on a highly selective level.
Inge Buniardi began her piano career at the age of seven and has since performed around the world. She has won numerous awards, including the KU Concerto Competition 2011; the MTNA West Central Division competition in Young Artist Category; first prize at the Ananda Sukarlan Awards in Indonesia in 2008, and more. At the age of 17, Buniardi recorded four hand works by Mozart together with her piano instructor, Iswargia Soedarno.
Buniardi is currently pursuing the DMA degree in piano performance at KU. She received her Master of Music degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam/Amsterdam School of the Arts.
