Pianist Michael Kirkendoll to perform free recital on Sunday, Jan. 25
Dr. Michael Kirkendoll, Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Kansas, will present a solo piano recital as part of the KU Faculty Recital Series at the Lied Center Pavilion on Sunday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m. Kirkendoll, a specialist in the music of living composers, will present a program entitled “Wilde” Music: De Profundis and Modern Experiments at the Piano. The program will feature Frederic Rzewski’s masterpiece De Profundis inspired by the prison letters of Oscar Wilde, who, like Alan Turing (the subject of the new movie The Imitation Game), was imprisoned in England for “Gross Indecency". In the work, Kirkendoll will recite text from the letters, sing, and improvise, all while performing notated music at the keyboard. The concert is free and open to the public.
