Welcome to the KU Percussion website. KU Percussion studio consists of 22 percussion majors, including international students, at the Doctoral, Master’s, and undergraduate levels.

If you want to be an educator or professional performer and perform with KU ensembles, this is the place for you. We have two full-time percussion graduate assistantships and some scholarships available for the students. KU percussion students have an opportunity to participate not only in various large and chamber ensembles, jazz combos, but also in West African Drumming Ensemble.

KU percussion department offers:

• Comprehensive approach to the study and performance of percussion in a variety of styles and genres including orchestral, solo, chamber, world and Jazz percussion under the professor Ji Hye Jung.
• Fulfilling musical experiences through both private and master class settings to help students become serious competitors and true musicians.
• A mix of around 20 students of undergraduate and graduate levels, including doctoral students..
• The oppoturnity to play in a percussion chamber group, a core element of studying percussion at KU.
• An African drumming ensemble that performs regularly throughout the region.
• In addition to lessons with Professor Jung, students may take drum set lessons from Adjunct Professor Brandon Draper.

Studio classes

• The goal of the percussion studio class is for students to become more comfortable and confident with performing.
• The studio classes help the students develop stronger listening and pedagogical skills.
• Studio classes are held on a weekly basis, and are divided into undergraduate level and graduate groups.
