Dena Register, assistant professor of music therapy and music education at the University of Kansas, earned the BM, MM, and PhD degrees from the Florida State University. Register previously worked as a private practice music therapist in Tallahassee and Tampa, Florida providing services to early intervention programs, students with special education needs and battered women and children. She was also the music therapy coordinator at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, FL.

Dr. Register teaches courses in principles of music therapy, research methods in music education and music therapy, philosophies of music therapy and psychology of music.

Her primary research interests include music therapy in early intervention and literacy skill development, as well as hospice care and children¹s bereavement. She also works with early childhood educators on incorporating music in their classrooms. Register has published her research in the Journal of Music Therapy and has presented at both national and international music therapy conferences.
