Music Theory and Music Composition

The Division of Music Theory and Composition within KU's School of Music features internationally and nationally accomplished composers and scholars, and offers degrees in music theory and music composition at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
Students must pass a keyboard proficiency examination by demonstrating an ability to play all major and minor scales, short works in harmonic and contrapuntal styles, and a movement of a sonata, and by sight reading a keyboard accompaniment of moderate difficulty.
