Sunflower Baroque to present concert March 5
Sunflower Baroque will present “A Baroque Potpourri,” a concert of instrumental and vocal music, at Swarthout Recital Hall in Murphy Hall on the KU campus on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at 2:30 PM.
The ensemble, which plays on period instruments, includes faculty members of the KU School of Music and musicians who are residents of Lawrence. Permanent members of Sunflower Baroque include: Baroque flutist Joy Laird, a professional flutist and teacher; harpsichordist Elizabeth Berghout, KU associate professor of organ and carillon and university carilloneur; and Baroque cellist Paul Laird, KU professor of musicology. The ensemble will be joined for this concert by the following musicians: mezzo-soprano Mariana Farah, KU associate director of choral activities; Baroque flutist Dorothy Maglione, a doctoral student in musicology at KU; and soprano Caitlin Laird, who completed a Bachelor of Music in voice at KU in 2016. The concert will include two arias by Johann Sebastian Bach, vocal duets by Claudio Monteverdi, and instrumental works by Pietro Locatelli, Jean Baptiste Loeillet, and Georg Philipp Telemann.
The concert is free and the public is invited.
