Auditions required for placement:

Wind Ensemble

  • Fall Semester Rehearsals: MWF 1:00-2:50
  • Spring Semester: MWF 2:00-3:50

Symphonic Band

  • Fall Semester Rehearsals: TR 3:30-5:20
  • Spring Semester: MWF 2:00-3:50

Symphony Orchestra

  • Rehearsals: MTR 4:00-5:50

University Band is available without audition:

  • Fall Semester Rehearsals: T 6:00-7:20
  • Spring Semester: TR 4:00-5:15

Audition Policy

All music majors and scholarship recipients are required to audition and be available to play in the three major ensembles listed above. Consequently, all music majors and scholarship recipients are expected to keep their afternoons completely conflict-free until after the audition results have been posted. Top winds, brass, and percussion players will rotate semesters between the KU Wind Ensemble and the KU Symphony Orchestra.

Audition Schedule

Auditions are blind and held at the times listed below. Students sign-up in the band office for audition times using their KU ID and phone number.  The audition schedule will be posted by the end of July.  Students can sign up for an audition time on the Band Office window (Murphy 124) beginning the week of August 17th.  Students who are under quarantine during the week of August 24 can make arrangements to video record their auditions.
