Collegium Musicum to present Spring Concert April 30
The University of Kansas Instrumental Collegium Musicum will present its Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 30, in Swarthout Recital Hall. Directed by Paul Laird, professor of musicology, the Instrumental Collegium Musicum performs music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classic Eras using instruments like those in use during the periods.
This concert will include singers Leslee Wood and Jackson Thomas; wind players Margaret Lambie, Jo Kraus, Anesha Dexter, Joy Laird, and Michel Prahl; harpsichordist Somruedi Suchitphanit; and Baroque cellist and tenor gambist Paul Laird. The concert will be an informative stroll through the music of each of the periods mentioned above, including pieces by Guillaume de Machaut (c 1300-1377), Costanzo Festa (1485/90-1545), Luca Marenzio (1553/4-1599), Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674), Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), and other composers.
