Kansas Virtuosi to perform a selection of ‘Epitaphs and Elegies’ and works by C.P.E. Bach and Schubert at Nov. 17 concert
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas School of Music proudly presents the second performance of the 2013-2014 Kansas Virtuosi Series – a showcase featuring the world-class talents of School of Music faculty. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, in Swarthout Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
This performance of Kansas Virtuosi features KU School of Music faculty members Julia Broxholm, soprano; Sarah Frisof, flute; Eric Stomberg, bassoon; Véronique Mathieu, violin; Michael Bauer, harpsichord; and Ellen Bottorff, piano.
The performance will include Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Trio Sonata in B Minor, Wq 143, H. 567, the Rondo Brilliant for violin and piano in B Minor, D. 895 by Franz Schubert and a selection of songs with a unified text theme of ‘Epitaphs and Elegies.’ These songs consist of real tombstone epitaphs or poetic elegies commemorating lost loved ones - actual or idealized - composed by Richard Hundley, Ned Rorem, Theodore Chanler and Ross Lee Finney.
The next performance in the 2013-2014 Kansas Virtuosi Series will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, in Swarthout Recital Hall.
