KU Collegium Musicum to present holiday concert Dec. 8
The University of Kansas Collegium Musicum will present “Early Music for the Holiday Season” on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Bales Organ Recital Hall. The concert combines the efforts of two ensembles: the Vocal Collegium Musicum directed by doctoral student Songyi Park and the Instrumental Collegium Musicum directed by Paul Laird, professor of musicology.
The concert takes place in an acoustic that is especially generous for music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The Vocal Collegium is a small ensemble, the likes of which might have been heard during these periods, and the Instrumental Collegium performs on instruments like those in use from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The repertory constitutes a smorgasbord of music associated with the season from several countries: French polyphony from the 12th century, French noëls from the 17th century, Spanish villancicos from around 1500, a 16th century English anthem, and a number of pieces from the German Baroque by Heinrich Schütz, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Sebastian Bach, and other composers.
The concert is free and the public is invited. For more information, please contact Paul Laird at plaird@ku.edu.EndFragment
