KU School of Music professor promoted to leadership team


The KU School of Music would like to to welcome Steve Leisring to our leadership team as the first Associate Dean for Internationalization and Special Performance Projects. With an impressive global background and a network of valuable contacts, Steve's international experiences will shape the future of our music program as outlined in Jayhawks Rising.

Steve Leisring came to KU in 2003 after performing for fourteen seasons with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Canary Islands, Spain. He has performed and taught in 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA, as well as the Guest Principal Trumpet in the Tianjin, Shenzhen, Harbin, and Tokyo Symphonies in China and Japan. He has been a featured soloist with the Harbin and Sichuan Symphony Orchestras in China. He has recently taught and performed in Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Finland, Ukraine, China, and Taiwan. In 2006, Steve was one of the first western performers at the China Trumpet Guild Conference in Beijing, which has led to more than 20 appearances in conservatories, universities, and music schools throughout China as a soloist and teacher.
