KU School of Music students sweep the top prizes at the Hays Symphony Orchestra Young Artists’ Concerto Competition
LAWRENCE, KS —Three KU School of Music piano majors received the top awards at the ninth annual Hays Symphony Orchestra Young Artists’ Concerto Competition held in Hays, Kansas on Saturday, February 2, 2013.
Daniel Chia-te Liu, DMA candidate and student of Scott McBride Smith, was awarded first place for playing Liszt’s “Totentanz”. Second place went to Chi-Kit Lam, MM candidate and student of Jack Winerock for Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.” Cong Cong Chai, DMA candidate and student of Jack Winerock, took third place for playing Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 1.”
Each winner was awarded a cash prize.
