KU Symphonic Band presents concert at Lied Center on May 5
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas Symphonic Band will close out the 2014-2015 KU School of Music Lied Center Series with a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at the Lied Center of Kansas.
The program will include with Toccata Marziale by Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring graduate conductor Allison Cockshaw; One Life Beautiful by Julie Giroux directed by graduate conductor Steven Smyth; and Porgy and Bess arranged by James Barnes, and conducted by James Barnes, professor of music theory & music composition. Barnes will retire this year after 41 years of directing bands and teaching music at KU.
Conductor Matthew O. Smith, associate director of KU Bands, will then lead the group in Aurora Awakes by John Mackey, and the Candide Suite by Leonard Bernstein.
