KU University Band and Symphonic Band to perform at the Lied Center on Dec. 2
LAWRENCE - The University of Kansas University Band and Symphonic Band will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Lied Center of Kansas.
Sharon Toulouse, assistant director of KU Bands, will conduct the University Band program featuring Heroes of the Sea by Dennis O. Eveland; Flowers of the Forest by Reber Clark; Flags of Freedom by John Philip Sousa; Belleau Wood by Garth Brooks featuring Ashley Reynolds, vocalist and Stan Jones, guitar; and Deck the Halls by Chip Davis. Graduate conductor Sarah Miller will lead the University Band in the First Suite in E-flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst. This year marks the 100thanniversary of the end of WWI, and the band is playing pieces to commemorate those who served in WWI.
Matthew O. Smith, associate director of KU bands, will conduct the Symphonic Band program featuring Ecstatic Fanfare by Steven Bryant; Laudamus Te by David Maslanka; and Armenian Dances, Part I by Alfred Reed.
