KU University Band and Symphonic Band present concert at Lied Center on March 7
LAWRENCE - The KU University Band and Symphonic Band will present a shared concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7 at the Lied Center of Kansas.
Conducting the University Band, Sharon Toulouse, assistant director of bands, will open the performance with To Dance in the Secret Garden by Robert W. Smith, A Solemn Prelude by James Barnes, American Riversongs by Pierre La Plante (featuring graduate conductor Allison Cockshaw) and Mother Earth by David Maslanka.
Leading the Symphonic Band, Dr. Matthew O. Smith, associate director of KU Bands, will conduct Xerxes by John Mackey. Cockshaw will also conduct Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo composed by Malcolm Arnold and arranged by John Paynter. The band will also premiere the Italian Wedding Song by James Barnes, who recently retired from the School of Music. The concert will end with Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli.
