KU Vocal and Instrumental Collegium Musicum presents “Early Music for the Holiday Season," a free concert on Dec. 11
The University of Kansas Vocal and Instrumental Collegium Musicum will present “Early Music for the Holiday Season,” a free concert at Bales Organ Recital Hall on Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will include a wide variety of music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classic eras, some of which is directly related to the holiday season and other of which has surely been played somewhere, sometime during the month of December. Highlights include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), William Billings (1746-1800), and Samuel Scheidt (1587-1654), but a number of other composers are also represented.
The Vocal Collegium Musicum, directed by James Davidson, candidate for a DMA in choral conducting, includes eighteen undergraduate and graduate students. The Instrumental Collegium Musicum, directed by Paul Laird, professor of musicology, includes ten instrumentalists and singers who play harpsichord, recorders, crumhorns, and string instruments while striving to play the music in the way that it might have been performed in past centuries.
The public is cordially invited!
