Music Recording Undergraduate Certificate

The Certificate in Music Recording is a program enhancement option for undergraduate and graduate students, designed to provide foundational understanding and experiences in the technologies, techniques, and business of music recording. The intent is not to provide comprehensive training in all non-performance aspects of the recording industry, but rather to allow students to explore how to combine their own musical interests and priorities with the tools and concepts necessary to record, edit, and produce music recordings, either in a commercial studio or a home studio, while also preparing to be adaptable for the changing landscape of music production and consumption in the future.

There are two ways for undergraduate students to add the certificate to their record:

  • Music Majors: Undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, may request to add the Music Enterprise Certificate by completing the Change in Plan form online or by contacting the Student Services Staff in 450 Murphy Hall.
  • Non-music Majors: Undergraduate non-music majors must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and interview with the director of the program who will determine whether the student has the necessary background. You can submit the request online.

There are three required courses and one elective for a total of 12 credits.  They must be taken in sequence.
