Constantino López Selected as 2026 Presser Scholar at the University of Kansas
LAWRENCE, KS — The KU School of Music is proud to announce that Constantino López is the recipient of The Presser Foundation’s 2025-26 Undergraduate Scholar Award. The Award is designed to encourage and support the education of a music student who has achieved a high level of musical and academic excellence, demonstrated leadership and service, and contributed to an inclusive community.
Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Constantino has distinguished himself as an exceptional young artist since arriving at the University of Kansas in 2022 as a recipient of the KU International Excellence Award. A flute performance major, he quickly made his mark by winning the KU School of Music Concerto Competition as a freshman and performing as a soloist with the KU Symphony Orchestra in spring 2023.
Known for his determination, work ethic, and leadership within the flute studio, Constantino continues to elevate those around him while maintaining a high standard of musical and academic excellence. This year, he was selected as one of just 15 flutists nationwide to compete in the National Flute Association’s prestigious Young Artist Competition—an achievement that underscores his growing national recognition.
“His determination and work ethic have allowed him to thrive at KU. He is seen as a role model in the flute studio, setting a high standard for all flutists and students he collaborates with,” says Associate Professor of Flute Daniel Velasco. “Constantino is a strong candidate for this award as he has demonstrated high levels of music making and academic excellence, has positively impacted the level of my studio and of KU Symphony Orchestra’s woodwind section, and has contributed to the diversity of our School of Music through performances of Ecuadorian music on our Latin American Festival and multiple other collaborations with faculty and students.”
