School of Music to present ‘The Dark Side of Oz: Re-Imagined’
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Department of Jazz and Commercial Music invites the public to a mind-bending musical journey with “The Dark Side of Oz: Re-Imagined,” an immersive live performance blending iconic rock, classic cinema and cutting-edge student artistry. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Liberty Hall in downtown Lawrence.

In this unique multimedia concert, KU students will perform the legendary music of Pink Floyd alongside reimagined visuals from the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz,” creating an all-new sensory experience that bridges the worlds of rock and jazz. The evening will also feature a special set of music honoring the late Ozzy Osbourne, performed with KU students and acclaimed guitarist Lucas Parker as guest artist.
“This is our first big concert within the newly formed commercial music area in the jazz and commercial music department at KU,” said Brandon Draper, associate professor of the practice and area coordinator for commercial music. “Our student musicians, audio production and music industry students will be running the entire show.”
“The Dark Side of Oz: Re-Imagined” is part of KU’s ongoing commitment to innovative performance and experiential learning, providing students with real-world opportunities to collaborate across genres and artistic disciplines.
Tickets are available through Liberty Hall’s box office and online at the Liberty Hall event webpage.
