Biography

Years of KU service: 1975–2012

Thomas M. Stidham was Associate Director of Bands at the University of Kansas where he conducted the Symphonic Band, taught courses in conducting, band literature, instrumental music education, directed the Men’s Basketball Band and assisted in the administration of the KU Band program. He was active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, and was resident conductor of both the junior high and senior high divisions of the Midwestern Music Camp at the University of Kansas. He arrived at the University of Kansas in 1975. Stidham was involved in every aspect of the KU Band program until his retirement in 2012, including organizing KU Band Day each year.

Stidham's home state was Florida, where he received degrees from the University of Florida, and taught for five years in the public schools. He was graduate assistant with bands at the University of Florida and director of bands at Georgia Southern College for six years. He came to Kansas from Baylor University in Texas, where he was assistant director of bands and low brass teacher.

Stidham held membership in numerous professional and honorary organizations. He was past-president of the Kansas Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Bandmasters Association, and held several positions at the state and regional level in the College Band Directors National Association. He was elected to membership in the American Bandmasters Association in 1984.
