Renowned composer to visit KU brass students
Peter Meechan, one of the Britain';s leading composers writing for brass and wind, will visit the KU campus Tuesday, December 7, 2010.
Meechan will do a residency at the KU School of Music where he'll speak with wind conducting students, present a session on brass music to KU brass studio classes, and work with composition students.
Peter Meechan holds an undergraduate degree from the Royal Northern College of Music and a Master of Arts degree and PhD in composition from the University of Salford. Meechan has written for some of the world's leading ensembles, conductors and soloists, and has more than 40 commercial recordings of his works worldwide. Recent awards include the 2010 Harvey G. Phillips Award for Excellence in Composition for his tuba concerto "Episodes and Echoes."
