KU Brass & Percussion

is home to a nationally and internationally known faculty who are master teachers, performers, and recording artists.

The Brass & Percussion Area is known for its rich and diverse ensemble opportunities including chamber music. These include the KU Brass Ensemble, the KU Percussion Ensemble, the KU Trumpet Ensemble, the KU Trombone Choir, the KU Horn Ensemble, the KU Tuba-Euphonium Consort, and a host of smaller chamber ensembles, all having presented prestigious performances on regional, national, and international conferences and symposia.

Most activities take place in Murphy Hall, an impressive facility that contains Swarthout Recital Hall, Gorton Music Library, the Robert Baustian Theatre, the McCurdy Jazz Studio and refurbished practice rooms. The larger ensembles perform in the Lied Center, a 2,020-seat performing arts hall with state-of-the-art production capabilities.

Brass and Percussion at KU

Brass & Percussion at KU

At the KU Horn Studio, we have a supportive yet challenging environment for horn players. The studio is dedicated not only to mastering the technical side of the instrument, but in finding and communicating your unique solo voice.
With around 20 percussion majors and minors ranging from undergraduate to doctoral level, the KU percussion area welcomes students as diverse as the music they aspire to perform, study, and teach.
Trombone students at the University of Kansas receive individualized instruction in applied lessons. In addition to developing technique and musicianship through study of appropriate literature in the applied lesson setting, trombone students participate in master classes, orchestral excerpt coaching sessions, trombone choir, and chamber music (such as trombone quartets and brass quintets).
The KU Trumpet Ensemble has been recognized nationally and internationally for its quality performances. The KU Trumpet Ensemble is open to music majors and non majors by audition each semester and is currently made up of trumpeters from 3 countries and several states.
