Marching Jayhawks Auditions

For nearly 150 years, the Marching Jayhawks have been the soundtrack of the University of Kansas. We are an integral part of campus life, delivering elite performances that entertain students, fans, and alumni alike. By auditioning for the Sudler Trophy–winning Marching Jayhawks, you could be part of a tradition that creates unforgettable experiences and lifelong friendships.

Brass & Woodwind Auditions

A successful brass or woodwind audition includes submitting the New Member Application. The video audition will be submitted through this form. Completed applications, including the video, will be accepted until midnight on June 1, 2026. We suggest not waiting until the deadline to submit your video.

Audition Video Elements

Brass and Woodwind video auditions must contain the following elements:
◆ Short introduction of yourself
◆ Chromatic Scale – full range of instrument (lowest to highest you are capable of)
◆ Play KU’s arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner (sheet music and recording* provided below)
◆ Play a portion of KU's arrangement of Kansas Song (sheet music and recording* provided below)

Audition Video Requirements

◆ All video elements must be completed in one continuous, un-edited take.
◆ The video must be recorded between the January 1, 2026 and June 1, 2026.
◆ Each applicant's face, fingers, valves, keys, or slides must be visible at all times.
◆ The video recording file must be saved as "instrument name." For example, Trumpet John Doe.
◆ The video audition does not have to be memorized.

About the Marching Jayhawks

All new members accepted by audition are required to:

  • Complete band camp registration by Friday, July 3, 2026.
  • Pay Band Camp fees by Sunday, August 16.
  • Attend Band Camp from Sunday, August 16 - Sunday, August 23, 2026.
  • Enroll in the Marching Jayhawk course by Monday, September 21.

The Marching Jayhawks will provide instruments to all members in order to ensure uniformity and save the wear and tear on members’ personal instruments. KU-owned instruments are not available until Band Camp.

Marching band meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm during the fall semester.
