Biography —
Dr. Christina Svec is the incoming Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Kansas, specializing in elementary general music. In addition to receiving a PhD in Music Education from the University of North Texas, she taught K-5 elementary/general music, early childhood music, church choirs, community children's choirs, and, most recently, elementary/general and secondary choral content at Iowa State University. She has held positions on various boards including Iowa Music Educators Association, Organization of American Kodály Educators, Gordon Institute of Music Learning, and currently serves as the president of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association and past-chair of the NAfME Early Childhood Music SRIG. Dr. Svec’s research interests include research methodology/pedagogy, music aptitude, and singing voice development. She contributed a chapter to The Routledge Companion to Interdisciplinary Studies in Singing, Vol 1: Development, and her journal publications can be found in Journal of Research in Music Education, Psychology of Music, International Journal of Music in Early Childhood, Contributions to Music Education, Visions of Research in Music Education, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education and Kodály Envoy.
