David Bushouse

David Bushouse, professor of music, joined the KU music faculty in 1969. He holds music degrees from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the 15-week Michigan Band tour of the Soviet Union, Middle East and Eastern Europe. Previously he taught at Morehead State University as horn professor and assistant band director. He has a wide variety of playing and teaching experiences, including private studios in Michigan, Kentucky and Kansas. At KU he was conductor of the Varsity (now University) Band and assistant director of the marching band until 1979. As Director of the renowned Midwestern Music Camp since 1979, he coordinated the activities of hundreds of students from about 30 states each year in the Junior and Senior Divisions, as well as the KU Jazz Workshop and the KU Guard and Drum Major Camps. Over 25,000 campers attended the Camps under his directorship until he assumed the Associate Chair position in 2004.

Mr. Bushouse helped found the Kansas Brass Quintet, and performed with the Kansas Woodwind Quintet and Kansas Woodwinds until 1996. Under his direction, the KU Horn Ensemble has performed at several KMEA conventions and 18 members performed for the 1977 Southwest MENC Convention. He was principal horn and soloist with the Lawrence Chamber Players, Lawrence City Band and the former Lawrence Symphony Orchestra. Professor Bushouse is the author of Practical Hints on Playing the Horn , published by Warner (Belwin).
