Biography

Susan Miranda, oboist, entrepreneur and founder of music ensembles Chione Quintet, BS Project, and co-founder of Dúo León, Larkspur Reed Trio, and Reed^5, is a versatile performer and musician. Susan’s strengths are many, including business owner, writer, and new music pioneer. As an advocate for new music, Miranda has premiered 25 new works for the oboe in the last five years. Alongside harpist Dr. Hannah Hite, Miranda premiered Across by Theresa Martin at the 2022 IDRS Conference. During this conference she also premiered a revolutionary work for oboe, English horn, narrator, and string quartet titled Three Aviaries by Kincaid Rabb.

In spring 2023, Miranda premiered pieces at both North American Saxophone Alliance 2023 biennial and regional conferences with BS Project. The duo performed “Music by Minnesota Women” at the Music by Women Festival in Mississippi. During the summer of 2023 BS Project performed at the IDRS Conference at Mahidol University in Thailand alongside bassoon colleague Cody Hunter as Reed^5.

A passionate educator, Miranda teaches oboe at Hamline University in Minnesota, and Dordt University and Northwestern College in Northwest Iowa.
